This summer I traveled to Kenya with the organization Me to We to build a school. I got hands on volunteer experience while interacting with a new culture. Young people everywhere have a right to be free from poverty, thirst, exploitation and disease. I chose to participate in Me to We’s youth volunteer trip because they are an organization that empowers youth to remove barriers that prevents them from achieving their potential. This trip was a great leadership opportunity that allowed me to take action to improve the lives of youth across the world and to go on an unforgettable adventure. I viewed fascinating places, became immersed in a new culture, and developed many friendships. I returned home having gained many experiences and an enhanced knowledge of the world. Working to achieve positive change in the world and having the knowledge of contributing to another person’s life and dreams is the most uplifting and empowering feeling you will ever experience.
Hi Mackenzie,
ReplyDeleteWow, wow, wow! It sounds like you had an amazing time in Kenya. I've never been anywhere as culturally different as Africa, but I can imagine it would be quite a shock. However, you definitely made the most of your trip by helping others so much. I'm sure it brings a unique perspective to you, and brings issues that you mentioned, like poverty, closer to home.
Sounds like an awesome experience, Mackenzie. I really liked how you said "working to achieve positive change in the world and have the knowledge of contributing to another person's life and dreams is the most uplifting and empowering feeling you will ever experience." These are the kind of thoughts that make your teachers and parents very proud. I hope you continue to find ways both globally and locally to "be the change you seek in the world," as Gandhi once said.
ReplyDeleteCiao Mackenzie! :)
ReplyDeleteExceptionally well written description of your volunteer experience (“Me to We”) throughout your summer in Kenya. All I have to say is unbelievable, incredible, extraordinary, and fascinating. These four words describe your summer in Kenya. Personally, I have never been to Kenya or Africa, but I can envision how culturally diverse it would be. From what I have learned, you most definitely made the best of your vacation trying to facilitate and assist others by building schools for the unfortunate to increase their education, supply running water stations, fundraise money, increase their health care system, building a strong relationship between individuals, and much more. Despite the fact that these are negative issues in our world today, you somehow managed to make them positive matters by joining a fundraising group that aids deprived children and adults. Without a doubt, “Me to We” offers students a hands-on education about global issues, as well as an outlet to make a difference in the world!!! For this reason, it brings out an exclusive viewpoint to you, and conveys a personal connection towards your heart. Clearly, this is an experience that you will be able to share with friends forever, and I am honoured to have been one of them!!! Undoubtedly, I am considering joining “Me to We” this year, and look forward to travelling to Kenya to help others around our planet who are in need. Keep up the great work Mackenzie! :)
